I am the proud owner of the Jlopnik plate for florida. We cant have 8 letters so this is the best we can get and its riding dirty on the back of my m3 with a freshly half finished and half assed paint job lol. Seriously... the paint looks like shit but is still soo much better than before. The bodyshop is going to redo it and fix the drips and peel and crap imbedded in it. Its gonna look pretty sweet when finished id say. Good enough for 800bux.

Dude! What Dinan mods do you have?
![]() 08/22/2013 at 11:51 |

Nice! Congrats!

Jalopnik and Florida, that's a fantastic combination! Very nice.

Well done, sir. Sorry to hear you have to live in Florida. What a community. I want to see an OPPO or JALOPNIK tattoo on somebody. :)
![]() 08/22/2013 at 11:59 |

As far as I know its just stage 2 or 3 ecu man. The car came to me this way and even though I feel kinda not right about the Dinan badge with only an ecu upgrade I left it there. It may come off in the future. Or down the road it may get an SC to match the badge but im not holding my breath lol.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:00 |
|
I just wish it was centered to the left. It looks a little weird hanging right like that.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:05 |
|
Hey hey. I love florida. Well, love is a strong term I guess but there arent many other places I would rather live. Hate snow and love the water. I like not having four seasons. 2 or 3 is good enough for me. Yes we have crazy large homeless population, and lots of drugs and unemployment and all that... but its home lol
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:05 |
|
Even with a SC, I wouldn't rock the Dinan badge.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:08 |
|
lol and now looking at the badge I see they put it back on all out of alignment with the other badge lol. Well like I said it came this way and I wouldn't have put it there myself so I guess I should pull it off. Or just let the body shop do it.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:11 |

Awesome plate! Has anybody recognized it?
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:14 |

I just put it on yesterday so not yet but I will let you guys know as soon as someone does.

Gotta love where you live.

Let the shop pull it off. You will be respected for your decision. By me.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:42 |

TBH the only reason I have left it on is because my GF calls it "My little Dinan" When referring to the car and its kinda cute. She has no idea what it means and I have told her many times to just call it my M3 but she does what she wants lol. But yeah. Its coming off.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 12:45 |

Ah well that's nice and cute. But yes, take it off.
My wife calls my car a worthless piece of junk, so your life could be worse.

point taken
![]() 08/22/2013 at 13:01 |

If you have Stage II then you also have the cold air intake (5 pts). If you have Stage III then you have the cold air intake and the bored throttle body (total of 7 pts). To my knowledge you'd need 10 pts to get the badging. Do you know if you have the MAF sensor or any suspension upgrades? Dinan takes the badge pretty seriously, going as far as to shut down a factory producing the same characters. It might be real for the car.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 13:18 |
|
Car has a CAI but its not a Dinan. I have no idea what throttle body is on it but I will look. The guys who I bought it from said the tune was meant for the m50 intake manifold and I would see better numbers with it. The cars a bit of a frankenstein and I am sure the only Dinan part is the chip. I am also aware of the tradeoff in tq when using the m50 manifold and have done plenty of research as far as tuning goes so I know that the guys may have not known what he was talking about but I believe the stage 3 may be what he was reffering to. Im hoping to take it to a guy locally who specializes in racing bmws to help me decipher it all. The suspension is bilstein and eibach.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 13:26 |
|
Hmm. Well if it's real you can contact Dinan - it should have been registered. Still, you have a nice looking M3 there.

Tell her to call it Cosmo.
![]() 08/22/2013 at 14:01 |

I harbor no illusions that it is an official Dinan lol

The yellow bits make it look like a second carousel, though. ;)
Awesomesauce!

That sounds a lot like my town...

Tampa Bay. St . Petersburg to be exact. The rest of the countries homeless came here to summer and decided it was too nice to leave.

I'm in Sarasota (Venice to be exact), and they are all over....
They love warm weather

If the paintshop redoes the paint this would be a nice opportunity to loose that tacky badging.
Usually I do like sporty BMWs (especially older M3s), but with this sort of wonky badging, this car looks like a 'upbadged' boyracer-316 or 318.

Dinan badge is coming off no worries
![]() 09/07/2013 at 13:37 |

I think if I were to get a Jalopnik plate (we also only have 7 characters in WI) I'd probably go for JALOPNK.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 13:39 |

Something about don't let the same dog bite you twice? Taking it back to the same shop that did that in the first place? So it can come back even worse? Crazy from the heat in Florida. Make it a Great Day.

Nice e36 you got thar.

I appreciate it man. Now if I could actually DRIVE the goddamn thing it'd be great. Its been at the body shop for 2 weeks now.....
![]() 09/07/2013 at 13:50 |

Tell me about it. Shortly after I got my 328i I decided to replace my cats, for about the following week I practically lived under the damn thing. And before that the over heating issues, and before that it was learning how to drive a stick.

What about California? Similar weather, less humid, less crazies! :D
![]() 09/07/2013 at 14:03 |

Yeah that might be better but it wasn't really planned that well lol. I had thought a little about getting it but when I found out it was so cheap I kinda had to do it on the spot.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 14:03 |

Its on the short list lol
![]() 09/07/2013 at 14:10 |

Well done and all (?), but how do you know there isn't a JALOPNK or JALPNIK?
![]() 09/07/2013 at 14:13 |
|
I'll have to admit though, housing out here is terribly expensive. Plus we have to deal with all kinds of crazy CARB laws.... so as a car enthusiast it's not exactly the greatest place for modifying your car.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 14:59 |
|
Yeah man I hear that. Im in one of the best states for tuning as no one seems to give a shit about how your car runs or how safe it may be and im ok with that. Its up to me then.

Did you try JAL PNK? The central circular crest could be used as an "O"...
That will leave somebody else the option! ;-)
![]() 09/07/2013 at 15:27 |

That's what I've heard.... I'd love to run without a cat, b/c rotary, but that just doesn't fly in California.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 15:41 |
|
I'm sure everyone who will "get it" will get it no matter what, but if I had no idea what Jalopnik was, I might read it as J Lo Pink (???). You could always change it next year. I don't know about Florida, but here its basically the same to renew as to get new plates. You could have every spelling of "Jalopnik." lolol
![]() 09/07/2013 at 16:00 |

I have the best of both worlds. Student in California with a car registered in Washington. No CEL's and I pass emissions. And better weather than even Florida can offer. Plus I'm in the Central Coast so no traffic!!! :D

Get rid of that ricer tailpipe, only e36 i ever agreed on a having a trashcan for a endpipe was a 2jz converted estorill blue e36 coupe, and yes im scandinavian if you wondered what kind of people is crazy enough to swap a 2jz in a e36...
![]() 09/07/2013 at 16:04 |

get rid of that trashcan, unless you have a 2jz swapped which i guessing you dont.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 16:46 |

taken.... thanks though
![]() 09/07/2013 at 17:30 |

Sadly, most of the Floridians will mistake you for a dyslexic J Lo fan... :(
![]() 09/07/2013 at 17:45 |

Nice E36 Minus the ricer exhaust, that ruins the whole car....

Hey! I just moved to St. Pete. I cannot say I "love" it here. But it is ok, at least for now (London transplant, by way of DC for some years for school).

Oh and I haven't seen your car around town, but if I do I will come and say hello!
![]() 09/07/2013 at 18:15 |

The best looking generation M3 and the one from my undergrad years. Still remember getting destroyed on the highway by a yellow one a guy in my dorm had. Good times.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 18:26 |

There's a yellow one here that got me in the highway right after I got this one and hadnt had time to learn the car. Im gunning for him.

J Lo Pink lol...oh the ironies..
![]() 09/07/2013 at 18:32 |

Ill put a proper exhaust on when I get some $. Right now its 3inch all the way back and actually sounds pretty good though missing a bit of gurgle. I have my eye out for a good replacement.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 18:34 |
|
All in due time man. I gotta undo that which has been done previously.
![]() 09/07/2013 at 18:35 |

Doesn't look like what Dinan would give you for that car. The Dinan logo has small plastic connections between letters that I don't see here. Also the Intake and throttle body parts would come with CARB certification stickers that go on the inside of the body near the components and they should have Dinan stickers on them. The original CAI was carbon fiber but I think they changed the design to powder coated metal. The exhaust tip is definitely not the Dinan product, so unless it's sporting their full suspension and a few other parts, the badge didn't come from Dinan.
None-the-less, the e36 M3 is an amazing machine. Enjoy!

JALOPNK is still available, just an FYI.

I love Florida myself. Born here, raised here, moved away, and ended up coming back. Love living in Tampa and having the water all around. And how many other places can you (comfortably) drive around with the T-Tops off all year around?!

I still miss my E36. Sold it for a 370Z. Probably going to be back in an M one day. But not an E46.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 01:24 |

i think its fine, especially because of the ecu work to have the badge, i got my COBB badge after intake, turbo inlet pipe, accessport, measley shifter weight, and went with other companies for the 3inch, intercooler, bypass valve etc because COBB doesnt make them for my car, but the accessport was definitely what earned me the badge. and that's ecu flash so why not.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 03:26 |

The previous owner worked out there so possible
![]() 09/08/2013 at 08:03 |

Only newly purchased and licensed dealer installed Dinan components get points. Any "point worthy" modification would get a sticker on your front radiatior brace.
I've got enough parts on my car to get like 12 points - but as most of them were bought used off eBay - I don't qualify for the badge.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 14:40 |

My advice would be to get your money back from the paint shop and go somewhere else. I've never heard of a car coming back with so many problems with it. Whomever painted it for you is taking the piss. I would definitely consider f*****g him off. Just a bit of free advise, for what it is worth.
![]() 09/08/2013 at 17:23 |

apparently the kid paint the car for the shop just graduated body shop school... What the f*** lol. Yeah I agree and if it comes back with problems then I'm going to exactly that and try to get my money back. We'll see tomorrow

Good luck fella. I'm big lover of all things with an M badge so please keep us updated on your success.

I had a neighbor pickup her 1973 'Vette fresh from the body shop. Shift linkage wasted. Passenger side wasted. Looked great on the driver side but since she had driven it home, her fault.

I own an E36 M3, but I will happily admit that the E30 M3 is the best looking of the bunch. Because homologation special.
